School Liaison

Events

The School Liaison’s primary function is to serve as a conduit between parents, local educators, and the command.  The School Liaison is the “face of the installation to local educators, and the face of local educators to the command.”  As K-12 education subject matter experts, School Liaisons provide information and resources to support military families as they navigate the challenges of this unique lifestyle – frequent relocations, deployments (planned and unplanned), reintegration, separation, postsecondary planning, special education service coordination, and so much more.  Additionally, School Liaisons support military parents who are looking for information on homeschooling or other alternative models of education by maintaining professional relationships with installation agencies and community service providers.

The School Liaison for Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay serves 6 counties located in northeast Florida (Nassau County) and southeast Georgia (Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Glynn, and Ware).  Student enrollments are based on the family residence.  Military families relocating to this area must be mindful that differences between Florida and Georgia may govern what services are available and how they are delivered.

Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay is located in Camden County, Georgia and offers nine elementary schools, two middle schools and one regional high school.  Nassau County, located between Jacksonville (Duval County, Florida) and Kings Bay (Camden County, Georgia) is made up of 16 schools that are fully accredited and serve five different areas: Bryceville, Callahan, Hilliard, Yulee, and Fernandina. Additionally, the district runs the Nassau Adult High School, which provides adult students with the opportunity to earn a high school diploma at four different locations in the county: Hilliard, Callahan, Yulee, and Fernandina.

Please contact the School Liaison to inquire and get clarification on the school districts process/policy regarding the temporary overflowing of students.

Kings Bay Youth Connections Club

The Connections Club is a support network for military children that provides support and services for all transitioning military youth experiencing relocation-related challenges. The program offers an outlet for military children to express ideas, feelings, and emotions related to the military lifestyle. Children are provided opportunities to participate in academic and character-building mentorship programs as well as foster positive interactions between adults and peers who understand the challenges of transition. The Connections Club promotes academic achievement by reducing the stress and anxiety experienced at all phases of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) by coordinating installation and community resources to foster military family stability.

The design and implementation of the program will reflect the dynamics and needs of the families and youth being served.  This program is constantly reviewed to ensure that it meets the current needs of the military youth.
